Microsoft Introduces Book Search Tool PDF Print E-mail

Microsoft will finally release a test version of its book search engine in the US called Live Search Book. This will be available online from Thursday.

This digital library which will showcase books from the British Library, University of California and the University of Toronto will rival google's Book Search.
Initially, the books that will be available in this website are non-copyrighted books. But later on, it will include copyrighted books of which authors and publishers have already given permission to get published online.

Danielle Tiedt, general manager of Microsoft's Live Search Selection, said that they do not approve of mass scanning of in copyright books.

In its first version, Liv e Search book will only be searchable through its own search engine found in the website or a category in its main search page. Afterward, Microsoft would include these books in its general search engines.

This new system will include a full text search in the books, which would make it easier for the users to look for information.

According to Ms Tiedt, "We've focused on making the search experience really impactful...People will have full access to all of the text."

On the other hand, google is also working on a separate digital library. The project, which has a $200 million budget, would try to produce a digital archive of books fromUS Libraries. However, it would include even copyright books in its library.

A digital war has started.
