It was announced last Friday that Google will expand its advertising programs to
the video market, so in order to appear in the newest video games, Google
acquired Adscape, a video advertising firm.
Google stated that, since there are a lot of people who spend much of their time
on video games, they believe that they can create opportunities for advertisers
in order for them to reach their target audiences while maintaining a high
quality, engaging user experience.
Many gamers are shocked that
advertisements are now a big part on video games, actually they have to give
more time and effort on closing advertisements deals than on making a quality
game.
There are no financial details given about Google gaining Adscape,
but some sources that are close to Google stated that the deal was about $23
million. It was previously reported in DailyTech that Google will enter video
game advertising in January but the deal was made this Friday. Last year,
Microsoft had Massive Inc., which is another major video game advertisement
company for about $200 million.
Google stated that, they truly believe
that this prosperous environment is a perfect medium in order to deliver
appropriate, significant, targeted advertising that eventually benefits the
user, the video game publisher and the advertiser.
